Cardinal Rafael Merry del Val y Zuelta

attributed

O Jesus meek and humble of Heart,

R. hear me.

From the desire of being esteemed,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.  (alt Reply: Deliver me Jesus)
From the desire of being known,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the desire of being praised,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the desire of being honoured,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the desire of being preferred,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the desire of being consulted,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the desire of being approved,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the desire of being spared,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the fear of being humbled,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the fear of being despised,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the fear of being rebuked,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the fear of being calumniated,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the fear of being forgotten,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the fear of being reviled,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the fear of being ill-treated,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.
From the fear of being injured,

R. O Jesus, deliver me.

That others may be loved more than I,
R. Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

That others may be esteemed more than I,
R. Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,
R. Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

That others may be chosen and I set aside,
R. Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

That others may be praised and I go unnoticed,
R. Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

That others may be preferred to me in everything,
R. Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should,
R. Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
