The Novena prayers

Prayer to St. Francis Xavier:

The Raccolta ed. 1910, # 390:

O Great Saint Francis Xavier, well beloved and full of charity, with thee, I reverently adore the divine Majesty; and since I specially rejoice in the singular gifts of grace, bestowed on thee in life, and of glory after death, I give thanks to GOD, and beg of thee, with all the affections of my heart, that by they powerful intercession thou mayest obtain for me above all things the grace to live a holy life and die a holy death.

Moreover, I beg of thee to obtain for me :

(here insert some special spiritual or temporal favor);

but if what I ask does not tend to the glory of GOD and the greater good of my soul, do thou,

I beseech thee, obtain for me what will more certainly attain these ends.

Amen.

Let us pray the prayer of St. Francis Xavier for the Conversion of Infidels

Raccolta ed. 1910, # 17, Pope Pius IX, 1847. (from the word infidelis = unfaithful):

ETERNAL GOD, the Maker of all things, remember that the souls of unbelievers have been created by Thee, and that they have been made after thy own image and likeness. Behold, O LORD, to thy dishonour, with these very souls hell is filled.

Remember, O GOD, that for their salvation thy SON JESUS CHRIST underwent a most cruel death. O LORD, suffer not that thy SON be despised by unbelievers; but, appeased by the prayers of holy men and of the Church, the Bride of thy most holy SON, remember thy own pity, and, forgetting their idolatry and their unbelief, bring to pass that they may at length acknowledge thy SON JESUS CHRIST, who is our salvation, life, and resurrection, through whom we are saved and set free; to whom be glory from age to age without end.

Amen.

Aeterne rerum omnium effector Deus, memento abs te animas infidelium procreatas, easque ad imaginem et similitudinem tuam conditas. Ecce, DOMINE, in opprobrium tuum his ipsis infernus impletur.

Amen.

St. Francis Xavier's Hymn of Love:

O GOD, I love Thee for Thyself,
And not that I may Heaven gain,
Nor because those who love Thee not,
Must suffer Hell's eternal pain.

Thou O my Jesus!

Thou didst me
Upon the Cross embrace;
For me didst bear the nails and spear
 And manifold disgrace;

And griefs and torments numberless,
And sweat of agony;
E'en death itself -

and all for one
Who was Thine enemy.

Then why, O blessed Jesus Christ,
Should I not love Thee well:
Not for the sake of winning Heaven,
Or of escaping Hell;
Not with the hope of gaining aught,

not seeking a reward;
But, as Thyself hast loved me,

O ever-loving Lord?

E'en so I love Thee, and will love,

and in Thy praise will sing;
Solely because Thou art my God
And my eternal King.

Amen.

Our  Father

- Pater Noster -

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us,

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Pater noster, qui es in caelis:

sanctificetur Nomen Tuum;

adveniat Regnum Tuum;

fiat voluntas Tua,

sicut in caelo, et in terra.

Panem nostrum cotidianum da nobis hodie;

et dimitte nobis debita nostra,

Sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris;

et ne nos inducas in tentationem;

sed libera nos a malo.

Amen.

Hail Mary

- Ave Maria -

Hail Mary,

full of grace,

the Lord is with thee,

blessed art thou among women

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners,

now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Ave Maria,

gratia plena;

Dominus tecum:

benedicta tu in mulieribus,

et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus.

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,

ora pro nobis peccatoribus,

nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.

Amen.

Glory be

- Gloria Patri -

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen.

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto,Sicut erat in principio,

et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum.

Amen.

(here insert some special spiritual or temporal favor);

but if what I ask does not tend to the glory of GOD and the greater good of my soul, do thou,

Thou didst me
Upon the Cross embrace;
For me didst bear the nails and spear
 And manifold disgrace;

And griefs and torments numberless,
And sweat of agony;
E'en death itself -

and all for one
Who was Thine enemy.

Then why, O blessed Jesus Christ,
Should I not love Thee well:
Not for the sake of winning Heaven,
Or of escaping Hell;
Not with the hope of gaining aught,

not seeking a reward;
But, as Thyself hast loved me,

O ever-loving Lord?

E'en so I love Thee, and will love,

and in Thy praise will sing;
Solely because Thou art my God
And my eternal King.

Amen.

Our  Father

- Pater Noster -

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us,

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Pater noster, qui es in caelis:

sanctificetur Nomen Tuum;

adveniat Regnum Tuum;

fiat voluntas Tua,

sicut in caelo, et in terra.

Panem nostrum cotidianum da nobis hodie;

et dimitte nobis debita nostra,

Sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris;

et ne nos inducas in tentationem;

sed libera nos a malo.

Amen.

Hail Mary

- Ave Maria -

Hail Mary,

full of grace,

the Lord is with thee,

blessed art thou among women

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners,

now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Ave Maria,

gratia plena;

Dominus tecum:

benedicta tu in mulieribus,

et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus.

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,

ora pro nobis peccatoribus,

nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.

Amen.

Glory be

- Gloria Patri -

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen.

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto,Sicut erat in principio,

et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum.

Amen.
